19th century album, including 3 drawings of the town of Hyeres, and nearby islands, near Toulon, Southern France. Album in faded green morocco cloth binding worn on edges and spine, centre of cover tooled in gold ‘DEUX-SICILES’ and repeated on the spine. Front and back of album tooled decorative margins. Three drawings are inserted and pasted onto three separate pages in the album, pages 3,4 and 5, pages 1,2 and 6 are blank. Signed ‘S.L,’ in pencil, pen and black ink, lower right hand corner on drawings 1 and 2 of the album, the third is clearly by the same artist. French school 19th century anonymous artist. Each page is inscribed with the following inscription; first drawing inscribed in pen and black ink ‘Hyères vu du chemin de L’Ermitage.’ Second drawing ‘Côté Sud-Est de la ville d’Hyères.’ Third drawing ‘Les détroits des Îles d’Hyères vus de la rive méridionale de la Presqu’île de Giens’. Drawn in pen and black ink and wash over graphite, with some heightening in white all on paper. Measurements of the drawings are width- 9.75 x height-7.5” and smaller. First drawing stamped with a paper maker mark upper left hand corner ‘M.Pottin a Nantes.’ Hyéres, where the images are set, is located in the Southeast of France in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It is the oldest resort on the French Riviera, with the town clustered around the Castle of Saint Bernard.
