Our drawing is a characteristic one by this artist from Dordrecht. Other comparable landscape drawings by de Koningh are: Dutch Frozen Canal Scene, which was on the art market in 1990, A Landscape with a Peasant leading a Horse-Drawn Cart across a River and A Woman and her children and dog paddling in a River1.

Leendert de Koningh was a pupil of A. Vermeulen and M. Versteegh. He worked in England from 1801-1802, and later in Paris, where he worked with J.L. David. In 1805 de Koningh went to Germany and again to England. In 1813 he was back in Dordrecht, where he worked for local collectors.
