Carl Joseph Geiger (Vienna 1822 -Vienna 1905) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and illustrator. Geiger was a student at the academy of his native city. He started work as a teacher, and he later became a student of the history of painter Joseph Fhrich.
His subject matter included many historical and religious themes, and he also made pictures for the altar of St. Stephen, the curtain for the Carl Theatre and he also designed several rooms in the Palais Kinsky and the Vienna Stock Exchange.
Geiger also supplied many drawings for woodblock prints by other artists, and it is likely that these drawings could have been for such projects.
The attribution is based on other drawings by the same hand with a historical attribution to the artist.
