Mark Adlington studied History of Art at the University in Edinburgh before taking a degree in Fine Art at the City and Guilds of London School of Art, between 1991 and 1994. There he won several prizes, notably the City and Guild Prize for Drawing in his final year. Best known as a painter and draughtsman of wild animals, Mark is based in London where he has a studio, though his childhood was spent in North Yorkshire. Mark travels extensively in search of the wildlife which has been his principal obsession since his youth. He works extensively on site before returning to the studio to try and recreate the immediacy of his responses to the animals using various and often mixed media. Mark exhibits regularly in London and abroad, and occasionally works to commission. Mark also has a studio in Lozre, in central France where he has been inspired by the landscape and animals from this region. His work is extensively collected in the UK and abroad.
