PROVENANCE: Hand written notes on the mount that the drawing was bought from Baskett and Day and came from the Rudolf collection; Harold Day (his extensive inscription and mark verso, not in Lugt).

Inscribed in pen and brown ink Paolo [upper left corner] and numbered in pen and brown ink 696 (verso), black chalk, squared for transfer in black chalk on blue paper

288 x 206 mm (11 1/4 x 8 1/8 in.)

It is interesting to note other drawings by Venetian artists that show portraits of women half-length, such as the drawing of Study of a standing Lady in black and white chalk on blue paper by Paolo Caliari, called Paolo Veronese (1528-1588), which in turn was made for Portrait of a Lady with a Dog in the Thyssen collection, Lugano.
