PROVENANCE: An unidentified collector's monogram 'GFM' on the verso in pen and brown ink; Possibly Giuseppe Vallardi (1784-1863) and his association inscription in red chalk on the verso; Professor Raymond E. Pahl, FBA, (1935-2011).

It is interesting to observe that the collector's initials on the verso of our drawing appears on at least four other known drawings. There is an image of the inscription published most recently in the 2003-04 catalogue from Jean-Luc Baroni Ltd.1
