Mller was a student of Baron Gros and Lon Cogniet. He exhibited regularly at the Salon and was bestowed with numerous honours. He worked on four important paintings for the ceilings in the Muse du Louvre, representing the periods of art in France under Saint Louis, Francois Premier, Louis XIV and under Napoleon 1. Mller also painted eight allegories in the same scheme.

This type of figure was used in the fresco in the Salle Denon, Muse du Louvre, which Muller worked on between 1864-18651.
