Pinelli is best known as a chronicler of daily life in Rome. He was a prolific printmaker and illustrator. Although celebrated for his genre works, he received a brief classical training in the schools of Romes Accademia di San Luca and in Bologna. He was also well versed in the literature and history, providing illustrations for the Aeneid, Dante and Tasso, among other works. But it is for such works as his Costumi di Rome of 1809 that he is most remembered.
